Kalalau Trail closed due to weather/landslide

A landslide along the Kuhio Highway has closed the road that leads to Hanalei and the Kalalau Trail. The landslide occurred on the morning of March 11, 2021. Initial estimates are that it could take 3 months to fully reopen.

  1. Any thoughts on if it’s looking like this will be possible mid-May? Know it says to fully open it may be 3 months, but wondering if it will be part open by then

    1. There’s no telling. They will probably open and close the road as they work on it. It might be open one day and closed the next. It can be a gamble.

    1. The trail is currently open for visitors. The roads are open but being worked on. You might experience delays.

  2. Are there any entry and parking passes being issued for June 23rd, 2021 to get on Kalalau trail? Don’t see any online for June or July. Hoping to get on trail while in Kauai.

    1. If there are no reservations available, it’s usually because 1) they are sold out for that day or 2) they have not started allowing reservations yet (30 days ahead). Reservations (and permits) sell out almost instantly. If you don’t act fast, they are very hard to get.
