And again….. 32 Kalalau Trail Hikers Airlifted to Safety

The county of Kaua’i posted the following report today:

HANAKĀPĪ’AI – The Kaua‘i Fire Department airlifted 32 stranded hikers from the Kalalau Valley Wednesday evening after rising waters made the Hanakapiai Stream impassable.

At approximately 5 p.m., a hiker who crossed the stream and made it back to the trailhead notified rescuers of the others.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 were able to airlift all hikers back to the Kee Beach landing zone by nightfall.

No injuries were reported.

Officials urge hikers never to cross swollen streams or rising water, as it could result in significant injury or death. Instead, wait until it is safe to cross or help arrives.
